The Magic of Notion: Tips & Tricks for Managing My Busy Mom Life

Life can feel like a juggling act, especially when you're not only trading hats between "The Diaper Changer Supreme" and "The Homework Guru," but also "The Household Manager" and "Your Own Person." The need for brain space multiplies when you have ADHD or when you're parenting a child with ADHD. And that's why today, we're unboxing a digital magic trick called Notion.

No, it's not a fancy new brand of cannabis (though wouldn't that be fun!). It's an all-in-one powerhouse tool that serves as your digital planner, project manager, regular reminder, and much more. It's like hiring a personal assistant who reminds you of that pending school project, all those things you need for the grocery haul, or your online yoga class — but without the human interaction, coz who has the time, right? Looks like we're about to take organization to a whole new level!

Creating a Personal Dashboard in Notion

Sister, imagine a desk—clean (without those thrown-around, hard-to-find papers) and a digital board which, with a single glance, presents an overview of your world. Welcome to the concept of a dashboard in Notion! This isn’t just about ticking off items from a to-do list; it's about having a bird's eye view of your projects, goals, chores, and everything else that matters in your daily circus.

We, ADHD parents, know the struggle of keeping our information organized. From appointments to reminders about turning off the stove after boiling milk (we’ve all been there!), we need a system in place. This is where Notion comes handy. And how! It lets you streamline all your tasks by offering different views like tables, calendars, or kanban boards. Plus, personalizing it is an absolute piece of cake, cherry on top, and the works.

Using Templates in Notion

Are you always running around like a headless chicken trying to manage, well, life? Notion's wide range of templates is essentially like your lifejackets. They’re pre-designed, so you can hit the ground running. And they cover everything - whether you need help in project management, or keeping tabs on your habits or a simple meal planner (because tacos or pizza is always a tough choice).

One of my personal favorites is the habit tracker template. It’s a nifty little tool especially when we’re trying to incorporate new, healthier habits. The meal planner, a heaven-sent on chaotic weekdays, is constantly buzzing with recipes like easy peasy avocado salad and quick bake mac ‘n’ cheese. It's also a neat way to avoid that dreadful question - "What's for dinner?"

Customization of Workspace in Notion

Now, Notion knows that just like our kids, we too prefer colorful, visually appealing stuff. And let’s be honest, we do need that splash of joy while managing mundane tasks. So, what do they do? They offer a diverse range of customization options. Whether it's choosing different colors, picking out fun icons, or playing around with layouts, Notion has got you covered!

Customization isn't only about the jazz though. It's key in making your workspace easy to navigate. Plus, doesn't it just feel satisfying to have a space tailor-made for you? Imagine opening your Notion to find everything in a pleasant color theme, with distinct icons for every list or task, and an easy-to-follow layout. A sight for the sore mommy eyes, indeed!

Creating a Knowledge Base in Notion

The best part? It lets you organize your resources using tags and categories, amen to that, right? And the next time you need that gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, egg-free (but hopefully not taste-free) recipe for a class party, it's just a search away.

Collaboration Features in Notion

Two heads are better than one, especially when it's about brainstorming for your kid's school project or planning a family vacation—and trust me, we'd appreciate all the help we can get, supermoms that we are. Notion steps in like a reliable team player. It allows you to share pages, databases, and projects with your husband, co-parent, or even other moms from the school community.

Its commenting feature allows for that much-needed discussion and a little adult interaction in our kid-filled days—almost like exchanging gossip and the latest mom hacks over coffee!

I hope this little tour piqued your interest. But we've only just begun! In the next part of this piece, we're going to talk about more complex features to manage data, plan weekly, set reminders, integrate Notion with other tools, and explore its advanced features. We're only getting started, so buckle up, sis!

(To be continued...)

Stay tuned for the second half of this exciting guide on managing life in Notion. Up next, we'll be deep-diving into the powerful world of Notion's databases and filters, time management with Notion's Weekly Planner, organizing with reminders and deadlines, integrating Notion with other tools, and getting to grips with the advanced Notion features that are set to make your life a whole lot easier.

Not Sure Where to Go Next?

If you're a slightly weird, socially-awkward, mentally-exhausted woman with ADHD, then you've found your place. You can pull up a chair and set-up camp right next to ours.

We plan to publish articles on many topics relating to our experiences with mother- and womanhood, ADHD, parenting, herbal remedies, meditation, yoga, and staying in tune with your purpose. It may be slowly, but hopefully weekly, between mom-life and full-time jobs; so thank you in advance for your patience.

So often we move in isolation, much like bears do. But bears come together, and as a parenting village, occasionally we do too. We hope you like it here and decide to stay for a bit.
